Aime’s Why

Aime’s journey began with a fight for survival. Born in 1976, she had just a 24-hour chance to live. Arriving three months early at a mere 1 pound 12 ounces, her family faced a terrifying reality.

Against the odds, Aime blossomed into a vibrant young girl. However, her elementary years were marked by severe bullying. For six long years, she endured relentless taunts from her peers. Including being physically assaulted twice. This constant negativity led her to believe she was stupid, ugly, and a loser.

The education system labelled her a ‘slow learner.’ Teachers doubted her abilities, insisting she would struggle in all core subjects. But Aime persevered. Through tears and hardship, she continued to fight. Her determination paid off when she won the Most Improved Student Award upon graduating grade 8.

Yet, challenges persisted. Aime faced dating violence while attending university. In a controlling, emotionally abusive relationship, her self-confidence took a hit. The situation worsened when her ex-boyfriend began stalking her after their breakup.

As an adult Aime was diagnosed with both anxiety and PTSD due to her life experiences.

Later in life, Aime came out as a lesbian. The fear she felt during that time remains vivid. Now, she is on a mission to ensure youth and adults from diverse backgrounds feel safe and supported. As a coach, she helps young people navigate their own coming-out journeys. Aime also trains businesses on how to support the 2SLGBTQ+ community, and the disability community using her unique tools to foster safe and welcoming workplaces.

Aime’s story is one of resilience and empowerment. She turns her challenges into a source of strength for others.
